In 1991 football was introduced as a GPS sport. Mr Tony Clarke, the inaugural director of the sport at the College, guided football through these formative years. Perhaps the most instrumental move by the College to boost the game in these early years was to appoint Mr Gordon Arrowsmith as 1st XI coach in 1995. Gordon, a pillar of the Queensland football community with coaching experience at a national level and acknowledged on an international scale, transformed the Nudgee College 1st XI team into one of the highest standards of schoolboy football in Australia, resulting in a dominant period in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.  Since then, former Head of Football Paul Edwards and former Socceroo, Col Bennett have guided the team to two unbeaten seasons.
In 2012, Jamie Pybus took up the role of Director of Football looking to develop players to representative level, state level and beyond. The programme hugely values the development of individual players and, during 2013, four players achieved National recognition and another six State selection.  Nudgee won back to back Premierships in 2013 and 2014.
What is the Football Programme?
The programme here at Nudgee College consists of the GPS season (years 5-12), football mentoring programme, goalkeepers academy, development programme, futsal programme, coaching camps and development coaching including visits from Brisbane Roar community coaches and from local NPL, BPL and community clubs.
GPS competition
Nudgee College 1st XI have finished in the top few placing’s for most of the past 21 seasons.  Most recently Nudgee College finished 1st in 2014, 1st in 2013 and a narrow 2nd in 2012.
In the past two years the programme has also seen large growth going from 180 players in 2011 to approximately 500 in 2014.  As well as encouraging high levels of participation the programme also looks to support boys development towards playing at the level they aspire to, including helping them to balance training commitments.
